The ATLAS COPCO 1613-9436-03 separator element is located inside the air oil separator tank and separate the compressed air from the residual oil coming out of the compression bloc.
The element is designated with a maximum velocity rating, line pressure can affect the velocity of the air inside the separator tank therefore it is really important to select the right part of your air compressor and your application. A high quality separator element will be size with some safety factor in order to function properly at pressure slightly under-rated capacity.
The top-hat style air oil separators are installed inside a separator tanks with a gasket and a grounding wire. They normally need to be changed anywhere between 4000 hr and 8000 hr depending on the parts.
